The song Deeper talks about a person that is trying to keep the hurt and anger in his/her life from God and just bury
it in their own power. This person is lying to him/herself in the fact that you cannot just hide things inside and expect
them to heal themselves and not affect your life. The Bible says in Hebrews 4:13 that, "Nothing in all creation is hidden
from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account." That is the
chorus line, "Everything I bury gets exhumed," in other words, it gets dug back up by God. We have to deal with our pain and
give it over to God or it destroys us inside. God knows this and is gracious enough to not let us hide things from him.
Jesus
himself said, "For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought
out into the open." (Luke 8:17) In the song, the person has to realize that this complete openess to the truth of Jesus and
the searching heart of God is the real strength, not the burying of weakness. We should substitute our weakness for God's
strength. See 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, in which Jesus says, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in
weakness." And Paul goes on, "I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ's power may rest on me. When
I am weak, then I am strong."
This is the giving over of our emotions and weaknesses and hiding in God that Deeper
talks of, turning the idea of burying our feelings inside ourselves to burying ourselves in God.
